The Commission Project Process
A while back, a friend of mine approached me about having a drinking horn commissioned. They’d seen the ones I have hanging on my wall and wanted their own, so we started discussing what it was they wanted.
They wanted five primary aspects that fit within the budget they had:
Approximately one pint in volume
Engraved and inlaid with an image of Fenrir in silver
Engraved with a simple knotwork design around the top circumference
The design included the ‘tiwaz’ rune
The leather holder would be one of my ‘stitched’ variety
Easily done.
I found and prepared an appropriate horn then started working on the design to be inlaid. A ‘viking’ art style was decided upon and a design was created which was adjusted as requested and approved before it was engraved.
The design was engraved and inlaid easily enough, but now to decide on a design for the leather holder. As we had previously concluded that the ‘tiwaz’ rune couldn’t be included in the silver engraving, I spoke to my friend and they said they trusted my judgement on a design for the leather carving when I asked if they wanted a ‘swirly’ design (like this horn https://heathencrafts.com/catalogue/silfr-drinking-horn) or something plainer. They were very happy with the final design and I enormously enjoyed working on the project.
